MicroLaser Peel for Iraqi War Veteran

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

A few months ago, a brave young woman entered the office of the Elizabeth Roche, M.D. MedSpa and told us her story.

Kelly* had been serving her country in Iraq and was home for a short break. During her time away, her skin had been severely damaged by the harsh desert sun and dryness.

“When I first meet Kelly, she had obvious signs of hyper-pigmentation everywhere except for where her glasses protected her,” says Dr. Roche. “She needed an intense peel to get her youthful skin back, so we planned a MicroLaser Peel for her on her next long break from her duties.”

A Free MicroLaser Peel Treatment

To honor Kelly’s war service and thank America’s soldiers, Dr. Roche performed the MicroLaser Peel treatment for free.

  • First Kelly’s face was numbed with a numbing cream 40 minutes prior to the procedure.
  • Then Dr. Roche performed the MicroLaser Peel, a procedure which took about 20 minutes.
  • Better yet, Kelly’s recovery time was brief – a MicroLaser Peel typically means several days to 2 weeks of avoiding sun exposure and adhering to an at-home regimen.

“A MicroLaser Peel is a great way to remove damaged hyper-pigmented skin and uncover the new skin below,” explains Dr. Roche. “The other benefit that patients obtain from a MicroLaser Peel is that collagen remolding gradually occurs, which helps with fine lines and wrinkles.”

New Skin, New Life

Kelly’s new skin came just in time. While in Iraq, she had met another officer and become engaged. As a result of her MicroLaser Peel treatment, she was able to walk down the aisle with glowing skin and a radiant smile.

“Kelly was great during the procedure and we were able to do a nice deep MicroLaser Peel for optimum results,” reports Dr. Roche. “Her recovery was smooth and the hyper-pigmentation was clearly improved.”

The Miraculous Mélange Peel

Friday, February 19th, 2010

There have been so many inquires on the website and phone calls to the office about The Mélange Peel, I thought it would be informative to discuss it on the blog.

The Mélange Peel is the newest treatment in deep peels to help with pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. It works extremely well on pigmentation problems such as melasma, sun damage, freckles, and uneven complexion.  Unlike laser and photo-rejuvenation procedures, The Mélange Peel is safe for all skin types, including darker complexions. Best of all, the is no pain at all with this peel!  How can that be?  Aren’t most peels, acid that burn?
Not this one. It is a high potency resorcinol and hydroquinone peel. The combination of these high dose medications work together to produce an amazing outcome.  The hydroquinone will stop the melanocytes (pigment producing cells) from causing the skin to have brown spots. The resorcinol (high dose retin A) sheds the dead  wrinkled skin from the surface revealing the fresh new skin beneath.

The peel is a 20-minute in office procedure. The face is cleansed and a pre peel solution is applied. Next, the peel which is an ointment like mask is applied and the patient goes home with the peel on. It is kept on between 6 to 10 hours depending on the skin type. At home after the designated time, the mask is washed off with the take home products that are included in the peel. Each day the patient follows a morning and evening routine with products that include a cleanser, an anti-redness cream and a sunscreen for the daytime and a melange cream for nighttime.

How much peeling occurs you ask? The first day after the peel the skin is red and may show slight swelling. The next 3 days, significant peeling that occurs. After that, the flaking appearance will be moderate and controlled with an at home regimen. This is continued over the next month. The result of clear, smooth, radiant skin is seen in the following months.

In some patients with severe melasma, the peel may need to be reapplied within 6 weeks to achieve greater results, however one treatment is usually sufficient.

If you have any questions regarding the peel, feel free to call the office.
