The Melanage Peel – Skin Lightening

What is the Melanage Peel?

The Melanage Peel is a Hydroquinone and Retinoid masque for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, pigmented blemishes on the skin and melasma. It is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin, which involves an in-office chemical application and post homecare regimen for follow-up.

How does it work?

The Melanage 1 Masque is applied during an office visit where it is compounded freshly by Dr. Roche or our nurse to ensure its potency and reliability. The masque is removed by the patient after a required length of time depending on their skin type. Patients leave the office with this masque on their face. Patients are responsible for adhering to an easy-to-follow, but strict, at-home regimen involving the application of several Melanage products following masque removal, including Eclipse Sunscreen, by Elizabeth Roche MD Skin Care line.

What results can I expect after the Melange Peel?

Results will vary but generally patients will see a significant improvement in the appearance of pigmented areas. Dark spots will lighten and skin texture and tone will improve. Although most patients experience peeling of their skin, not every patient will notice this. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the Melanage Skin Lightening System, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminishment of fine lines and pigmentation. Proper skin evaluation by Dr. Roche or our nurse prior to your peel is important and will help predict the outcome of you results.

Some patients are put on a lose dose steroid prior to the peel to prevent redness and swelling which may occur.

For a more detailed explanation of The Melanage Peel please refer to our Melange Peel Page.

What should I do after I receive a peel?

You need to limit sun exposure because your skin is more sensitive for about 1 week. You should wear sunscreen as well. We recommend SkinMedica’s Environmental Defense SPF 30 or Eclipse Tinted Sunscreen by Elizabeth Roche MD Skincare.

Strenuous activity should be curtailed for about 2-3 days. Avoid harsh scrubbing of the skin. If your skin is peeling, do not “help” the skin to peel-you can use a moisturizer to help with flaking.

Resume Retin A after 1 week if you are on it.

Dr. Roche or our nurse will follow up with you after your Melange Peel.
