Radiesse®

A next generation filler for long lasting wrinkle correction and volume.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse® is a safe, FDA approved injectable dermal filler used for facial contouring and augmentation. Radiesse® will immediately add volume to safely contour, correct and beautify facial features, while restoring a natural, long lasting youthful look.

Radiesse® is synthetic dermal filler made up of microscopic calcium particles that are naturally found in bone, called calcium hydroxlapatite, which become suspended in gel for injection. This component -- hydroxylapatite -- has been used for decades in medical procedures, including dental implants, orthopedic surgeries and facial surgeries.

How does Radiesse® work?

Radiesse® works below the skin’s surface. Tiny calcium-based microspheres form a “scaffold” to support and stimulate the growth of your own collagen to create a natural, full, youthful look. Radiesse® does more than just temporarily fill-in facial lines and wrinkles it rebuilds your skin’s foundation.

Over time your body absorbs the gel carrier while your collagen grows and infiltrates the area. Replacement gel with your own natural tissue occurs. The Radiesse® microspheres continue to provide the support and structure for your body to grow new tissue and collagen until the microspheres are also safely and naturally absorbed into your body.

Simply put: Radiesse® acts as a volume enhancer and stimulates the body to make new collagen.

Why “Fill in” Wrinkles with Radiesse®?

As aging occurs tissue volume diminishes leaving what is commonly seen as lines and wrinkles. Common areas include the deepening of nasolabial folds, accentuated smile lines (sometimes called “marionette lines”), fallen cheek pads, sagging jaw lines and sunken under eyes called tear troughs. Radiesse® can be injected into the skin to compensate or correct these areas. By using your body’s ability to grow collagen and regenerate tissue, Radiesse® produces natural looking results for a fresh, rested, healthy appearance that still looks like you.

How soon can I expect results?

Results can be seen immediately!

How long will my Radiesse® results last?

Radiesse® lasts 12 months or more and is often said to have a more natural feel than other traditional treatments. Additionally, the substances used in Radiesse® stimulate your body to produce more collagen over time, so just one treatment provides a lasting effect. Results typically last a year or more. However, results may vary, therefore Dr.Roche will do her very best to manage your expectations. A second treatment may be necessary to help maintain the natural effect after a year.

Is Radiesse® Filler safe?

Yes. Over 250,000 people (and growing) have experienced Radiesse® and more than 4,000 health care professionals. including Dr. Roche have been trained to provide Radiesse® treatments. Through years of rigorous industry and independent research worldwide, Radiesse® has been shown to be safe and effective. With Radiesse® you get safe, clinically tested, FDA approved reliability. Radiesse is a safe material also used for dental reconstruction, bone growth, vocal cord reconstruction, and has proven to be very compatible with the body. Radiesse® does not require an allergy test prior to administration.

How is a Radiesse® treatment preformed?

Dr. Roche will inject Radiesse® into the skin through a simple, safe convenient procedure. With the use of a local anesthetic, Radiesse® is a pain free treatment with little to no downtime. Most patients return to normal activities soon after treatment.

Where can Radiesse be used?

Radiesse® can be used as a corrective filler in general wrinkles and lines, for improving the appearance of nasolabial folds or “smile lines,” as well to define facial features such as the chin and jaw line, cheeks, cheekbones, and nose.

Radiesse® may be used to enhance features that are less prominent than desired or to correct a facial asymmetry. Radiesse® is also highly useful as a contouring agent, as it can be used to contour and smooth the jaw line and cheeks.

Radiesse® can be injected in the hands to create youthful appearing hands. This is also a simple and pain free procedure.

What is treatment with Radiesse® like?

During your treatment Dr. Roche will inject the Radiesse filler into the deep dermis and subcutis, providing a foundation into which the bodies own tissue can grow and add volume. This unique quality is what makes Radiesse® particularly effective in treating areas where soft tissue augmentation is desired, such as in the cheeks.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of syringes needed at the time of treatment will depend on how much correction is needed and your overall goal. Many patients will achieve their desired result after just one treatment. However, to ensure your satisfaction, Dr. Roche will schedule a follow-up visit within 1 to 2 weeks at which point a touchup treatment might be recommended.

What can I expect?

You should notice immediate filling after Radiesse® injection. There can be temporary mild swelling or bruising.

What is the recovery time?

Unless there is bruising, the only recovery time is a few days for the mild swelling to disappear. Bruising is uncommon, but if it does occur it can take 7 to 14 days to resolve.

Will Radiesse® dermal filler become hard or noticeable to the touch?

No. Radiesse® dermal filler stays soft and will take on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue.

Are there any side effects?

Normal, injection-related reactions such as mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site may occur. These conditions typically resolve on their own within one to two days, but may last longer. As with any injection there exists a chance of infection.

What if I’m taking medications?

Patients may need to refrain from taking some medications and supplements for a few days prior to treatment. If you’re taking medications or supplements, please tell your physician before receiving treatment.

Could I Have an Allergic Reaction to Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is biocompatible, meaning there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction. You do not need to undergo skin allergy testing, common in certain animal-based or permanent filler agents, prior to treatment. However, if you believe you are having an allergic reaction to Radiesse®, seek medical attention immediately.

Is Radiesse® permanent?

No. Treatment results are long lasting, but not permanent. The tiny, calcium-based microspheres in Radiesse® dermal filler eventually break down into calcium and phosphate ions. These ions are safely and naturally absorbed into your body, leaving your own newly produced collagen in place.
