How does DERMAPEN- MicroNeedling work?

This pen like devise made up of 12 fine, micro-needles is vertically inserted into the skin to create tiny, almost invisible micro-perforations. As a result, the skin shifts its natural repair mechanism into high gear and starts producing collagen and elastin to repair, rejuvenate, tighten and lift skin.

When the tiny micro-perforations are created, collagen and elastin are stimulated and active ingredients such as growth factors, hyaluronic acid and PRP can be used to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin.

This process of micro-needling while infusing product into the skin, regains elasticity, decreases fine lines, wrinkles and acne scarring, reduces pore size, and improves the overall condition of the skin. Dermapen is primarily used on the face, however it can be used anywhere on the body and is effective for all skin types. The Dermapen can be used in combination with other treatments, such as fractional lasers, IPL, and chemical peels.

How many Dermapen treatments will I need?

The number of treatments necessary will depend on the condition being treated. Most patients require 4-6 sessions, therefore we've designed a series of 5 treatments to be performed in 4-6 week intervals. Because each patient has different concerns, we will provide additional recommendations on an individual basis.

Will I need time to recover after Dermapen?

In most cases, you won't need to take any time off from your normal routine. Immediately following treatment, your skin will appear somewhat red and some patients may have tiny pinpoint bleeding. You may also experience some minor swelling or a sunburn type reaction, which will most likely resolve in a day or two after treatment. We always recommend that you schedule your treatments when your social life or weekend is relaxed and not around any up-coming special events.

What is PRP? Platelet Rich Plasma

PRP are the platelets and plasma taken from a patient's blood. Once blood is withdrawn and separated by a centrifuge into PRP and other components, it contains at least 8 growth factors. When administered back into the patient's skin, over time the PRP not only replenishes, rejuvenates, and stimulates collagen, but it builds new layers of the dermis and epidermis while restoring youthful volume.

Combining PRP with Dermapen

When adding PRP or platelet rich plasma to stimulate collagen, a vial of the patient's blood is collected prior to the Dermapen. The plasma, which is rich in growth factors to promote wound healing and tissue regeneration, is separated out.

It is then penetrated back into the skin with the Dermapen treatment to jump-start the rejuvenation process. This treatment is used to help patients of all skin types and is used as a corrective and preventative therapy treatment to improve skin texture, diminish fine lines and to stimulate new collagen growth. Microneedling with PRP is currently the treatment of choice to some of Hollywood's celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian. A method of using PRP in specific treatments is sometimes referred to as the "Vampire Facelift ".
