What Are BBL HERO® and MOXI® Laser Facial Rejuvenation?
BBL HERO® is Broad Band Light, an advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment that utilizes a broad spectrum of visible and infra-red laser light to deliver ultra-fast pulses of high-energy light to gently target the chromophores, such as melanin and hemoglobin, in your skin. This comfortably stimulates your body’s natural healing mechanisms to treat things like brown spots, hyperpigmentation, age spots, redness, vascular defects, acne and deeper structure such as collagen.
This delivered light does two things. One is that the light energy is converted to thermal heat energy and creates a controlled mico-injury to destroy the unwanted pigment or vascular cells, a process called selective photothermolysis. The second process is called neocollagenesis or collagen remodeling. This happens when the deeper infra-red light passes to the deeper dermal layers stimulating the fibroblasts and cells that make new collagen and elastin fibers resulting in firmer, tighter and improved skin tone over time.
MOXI®, on the other hand, is a non-ablative fractional laser that creates microscopic thermal zones beneath the skin without ablating or opening the skin’s surface. The fractionated or pixelated energy produces thousands of columns of thermal energy called micro-coagulation zones beneath the skin’s surface. This micro-thermal injury beneath the skin triggers your body’s natural wound healing. This stimulated the production of elastin and collagen. The damaged skin is expelled as microscopic epithelial necrotic debris or “MENDS” and appears as tiny brown dots and a sand paper texture for three to five days. The result of a MOXI treatment is skin that is visibly clearer, smoother, tighter and more healthy looking.

From start to finish, your BBL HERO® and MOXI® laser facial rejuvenation session is designed to be comfortable and effective. Here’s what you can expect during your appointment:
Consultation
Your consultation starts with a personalized skin assessment with Dr. Roche or a member of her highly trained, experienced clinical team member. Your concerns and goals are discussed with you and a treatment plan is written up for you. We will be able to guide you with how many treatments you may need and discuss ongoing maintenance options to preserve the results you will achieve. Areas such as neck, chest and other body parts can be treated with BBL HERO – MOXI laser treatments. Pricing will be discussed at the time of your consultation as well.
Skin Prep
The day of your treatment baseline “before” photos will be taken. Next, a topical numbing cream will be applied for 30 – 40 minutes. Your skin will be cleansed and prepped for the treatment. area. Dr. Roche or her professional clinical team customizes the settings for both BBL HERO® and MOXI® based on your skin type, concerns, and aesthetic goals. For the BBL HERO part of the treatment, an ultrasound clear gel will be applied to your skin as well as safety laser goggles for eye protection. After the BBL part of the procedure, the clear gel will be removed and your skin will be cleansed again for the MOXI part of the procedure. Once again, laser safety eye wear will be provided.
Treatment
BBL HERO® is performed first and during this process, your skin may feel warm, or you may feel a slight tingling sensation. You will sense flashes of light despite your eyes being shielded. The duration of the BBL part of the treatment can be five to ten minutes for the face and longer if other body parts such as the neck, chest, or arms are being treated. The second MOXI part of the treatment is usually less than 10 minutes for the face and slightly longer for other body parts.
During the treatment, you will also be provided with a Zimmer Chiller, a device we have that you can use to blow cold air to make your treatment even more comfortable if needed.
Recovery
Immediately after your treatment, a cool recovery mask will be applied for five minutes. You will be provided with a bottle of our Recovery Solution to use at home. Our Recovery Silver Balm Ointment is recommended for rapid and comfortable healing. You must use a broad spectrum mineral sun screen post procedure. All of your post instructions will be provided to you and verbally reviewed with you prior to your departure.
Both procedures are generally extremely well-tolerated by patients. Some minor redness and irritation can occur, but these side effects are usually mild and resolve within 24 to 48 hours. Your skin may also feel slightly rough as dead skin cells are sloughed off, and makeup can be worn in about a day. Sun protection must continue to avoid post procedure hyperpigmentation.
Results
If you had brown spots that were treated, these will appear more prominent in the next two to four days. By day three or four, your skin will begin to feel like fine sandpaper and gradually, microscopically your skin will start to exfoliate. The browns will begin to disappear and by day 6 or 7 the immediate skin healing process should be finished. You will begin to see gradual improvement in complexion, skin tone and texture over the next several weeks. One treatment alone will provide amazing results but depending on your current skin state, a series of 3 to 5 treatments over the course of several months may be recommended for the best results.
