The treatment, BBL-HERO, is a cutting-edge treatment that renews your skin with the utmost precision. The technology harnesses the power of broad-spectrum visible and infrared light energy which targets and corrects the imperfections of your skin. BBL light is different from laser wavelengths of light.
Unlike traditional methods, BBL-HERO delivers fast and comfortable results with minimal downtime. Just like our other treatment, MOXI by Sciton, BBL-HERO stimulates collagen production, leading to a more radiant and youthful look.
Skin concerns that it treats include age spots, brown spots, redness, rosacea, sun damage, loose skin, acne and the pigmented scarring that can occur with acne, to name a few skin conditions.
A Quick Look Into the Facts of BBL-HERO
BBL stands for “Broad-Band Light” and HERO stands for “High Energy Rapid Output”. This treatment is a non-resurfacing treatment that uses Broad-Band Light technology to treat various skin conditions. This kind of technology directs quick pulses of light that directly target pigmented areas in the upper layers of the skin. This treatment is highly effective as well as comfortable for patients. It is a non-invasive solution for those looking for an easy and close-to-painless experience.
BBL-HERO utilizes advanced technology to treat each patient and provide the best results accurately. It addresses several skin conditions with a single handpiece. Sciton BBL technology has been around for decades and has been proven to be safe and effective. Sciton made their well-known BBL treatment four times faster and more effective with their latest high energy rapid output technology.
Key Benefits of BBL-HERO
- Reduced Signs of Aging: BBL-HERO can protect the skin from the formation of wrinkles and reduce the wrinkles that may already be present by stimulating cells which lead to the formation of new collagen.
- Improved Skin Texture: Since this treatment heats the upper layers of the skin, it triggers the body’s natural healing process to produce new collagen for skin strength and elastin fibers for increased elasticity which result in overall better skin texture. It improves your overall skin appearance by tightening it and targeting the signs of aging.
- Reduced Pigmentation: The BroadBand light therapy uses photothermal energy to target unwanted melanin that results in brown spots on the skin surface.
- Corrects Redness, Rosacea and Small Capillaries: Specific wavelengths of light target the small capillaries in the skin delivering heat and shutting them down. This reduces their appearance on the skin surface and the redness that is associated with them.
- Treats Acne: BBL-HERO uses a combination of three wavelengths of light; blue light to eliminate acne causing bacteria, yellow light to reduce redness and inflammation, and infrared light to stimulate collagen and the overall healing process to clear acne and prevent new acne breakouts from developing.
- Non-Invasive: Since this treatment uses pulsed light energy and targets more surface-level skin concerns with minimal downtime, it does not penetrate or peel your skin. It is also non-ablative, which means it doesn’t harm the skin’s surface. BBL-HERO allows energy to pass through the skin causing heat to be produced beneath the skin without disrupting it.
- Long-Lasting Results: The results of this treatment last approximately three months and you will begin to see improvements within a week or two. In the beginning, you may need several sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart for correction of your baseline skin condition. Then, it is best to have treatments 4 times a year for optimal continued results.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
In preparation for your BBL-HERO treatment, it is important to wear sunscreen for at least four weeks before your given appointment. Also avoid self-tanning products for at least two weeks so we can ensure you have the best results from this treatment. Stop using Retin-A, retinoid and retinol products 3 to 4 days before your treatment. Some medications can make you “photosensitive” and the treatment may be too strong for your skin while you are taking that medication.
It is best to contact our office to review if your medication may be one of them.
Additionally, if you have facial hair, please shave the area one to two days before your appointment. It is best to show up to the appointment with clean, makeup-free skin. Although your skin will be cleansed prior to the treatment, having a clean face makes the process easier. In our medical office, we provide you with a topical numbing cream which takes about 20 minutes to take effect and makes the treatment very comfortable.
Treatment Process
Just before the treatment, the numbing cream is removed and a clear ultrasound gel is applied to the skin.
During the treatment, our provider will use the BBL handpiece which has a clear sapphire cooling tip that keeps the skin cool and comfortable during the treatment. Most treatments take about 30 minutes, however depending on the condition of the skin and which areas are being treated, it can take longer. Besides the face, this treatment can be done on the neck, decolletage, as well as other body parts.
Most individuals feel warmth and slight snapping during the treatment. It is overall a bearable treatment, especially with our compounded topical numbing cream. After the treatment, the brown spots will appear darker, and there may be some overall flushing. The increased pigmented brown spots are a sign of an excellent treatment and are most apparent after the first treatment. They will resolve in about two weeks. After each future BBL treatment, the browns have diminished, so with subsequent treatments, they won’t appear as dark.
Post-Treatment Care
Immediately after your BBL-HERO treatment, we will remove the clear gel, clean your face and apply sunscreen.
After the treatment is given, you can resume normal day activities. We will guide you as to which products to use after this treatment so that you will obtain the best outcome. If you have concerns about using certain products on your skin, double-check with our provider to make sure it is safe to use. Some patients may experience mild redness and swelling, which is normal depending on your skin type.
If necessary, you may apply a cool compress to help with any discomfort. Avoid picking, scratching, or peeling the treated area.
To be protected from the sun, it is strongly advised to wear a hat or cap and sun-protective clothing to avoid hyperpigmentation. It is also best to avoid strenuous activities for at least three days so your skin has time to heal.
Who is a Good Candidate?
Most individuals are eligible candidates for this treatment, but it is most effective on light to medium skin tones (Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1-4). For the skin tightening wavelength, most skin types are able to have a BBL-HERO treatment. For the treatment of dark spots or redness, very dark skin tones (Fitzpatrick Skin Types 5-6) can absorb too much light during the treatment, which can cause increased hyperpigmentation and burns and are not a good candidate for this treatment.
With over 20 years of experience performing BBL treatments on patients, we will advise you if BBL-HERO would be a safe and effective treatment for you.
