What Should I Expect with My QWO Cellulite Reduction Procedure?

QWO is a prescription injectable designed to reduce cellulite in the buttocks; the first of its kind and the only FDA-approved way to get rid of cellulite. The procedure is generally completed in a half hour, with the actual injection portion of the treatment lasting approximately 10 minutes.

Most patients who receive QWO cellulite treatment at my office notice results within 10 weeks, although many begin to notice the gradual changes even sooner.

Because QWO is a new procedure, you may be apprehensive about what will happen during your treatment, what it will feel like, and what your recovery will entail. It’s normal to be a bit nervous, so I like to let my patients know ahead of time what to anticipate so they can be as relaxed and mentally prepared as possible prior to their appointment.

Here’s what I recommend you expect before, during, and after your QWO injections.

Two Weeks Prior to Your QWO Butt Cellulite Procedure

Begin paying close attention to the areas of your rear that bother you the most; this will assist my team and I in marking the areas to be treated to reduce cellulite. At this time, I may ask that you discontinue taking any medications that thin your blood, such as aspirin, NSAIDs, Warfarin, or supplements like fish oil and gingko biloba. Despite these efforts, be aware that due to the nature of the enzyme that will be injected, you will have severe bruising.

You may also consider taking supplements like arnica to reduce bruising a before and after the procedure. This is typically done around one week prior to QWO cellulite treatment. I usually ask my patients to refrain from drinking alcohol two to three days before their procedure and for the same amount of time following its completion.

On the Day of Your Procedure

Before you come into my office on the day of your QWO procedure, you should shower and use soap on the area to be treated and avoid using any lotions, creams, or oils after your shower. Wear comfortable clothing.

When you arrive at my office, my staff will promptly check you in and bring you to the photography room for photos. We’ll confirm your health history and have you read the consent form. The cellulite dimples areas to be treated will be marked and a second set of photos will be taken. You will then be taken to our comfortable procedure room where I will meet with you again to administer the QWO injections.

You will be placed on your stomach and the marked cellulite dimples will be cleansed. It typically takes less than 20 minutes to complete the injection portion of the procedure. The injections are quite painless since they are done with a very fine needle, so no prior numbing is needed. During this time, you can listen to music, use a smartphone, or relax while I am injecting your dimples.

Following the procedure, you will remain on your stomach for 5 minutes before getting up. After 5 minutes, you are able to get up and get dressed. You do not need a driver to take you to and from the appointment; you are welcome to drive yourself if you choose.

Immediately After Your QWO Treatment to Get Rid of Cellulite

I request that my patients avoid strenuous work or exercise for the first 24 hours after receiving QWO buttocks cellulite treatment. You may resume your normal activities after that including working out and exercise.

Expect to have severe bruising in the areas treated especially after the first treatment session. This is normal. The areas may feel sore as well. Bruises will be visible for a couple weeks following the procedure. You may feel some swelling or hard areas under your skin; unlike the bruising, these tend to resolve relatively quickly.

You may also experience minor bleeding, tingling, numbness, tenderness, and itching in the treated areas. Showering immediately is safe, but I request that my patients wait 24 hours after their procedure to take a bath, swim, or sit in a hot tub or a body of water of any type. This will prevent the risk of a skin infection. You must avoid the sun until all bruising has resolved because exposing a bruise to the sun can result in lasting hyperpigmentation.

Three Weeks After Butt Cellulite Treatment With QWO

Before you leave the office you will need to schedule your second treatment in 3 weeks and your third treatment in 6 weeks after having the first QWO cellulite treatment. Qwo’s clinical studies have shown that three treatment sessions administered 21 days apart to the same cellulite dimples are needed for full correction of the dimples. Three weeks after the third session is completed, we will have you come in to compare your before and after photos.
