Your neck and chest are one of the first features others notice about your appearance after your face. Signs of sun damage and aging in your decolletage area, such as wrinkles and sagging skin, can lower your self-esteem. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of effective treatment options to tighten loose neck skin and get rid of wrinkles in the chest area.
Review the most effective treatments my patients choose to get the results of a neck lift without surgery.
Ultherapy, or ultrasound therapy, uses ultrasound waves to stimulate the soft tissue surrounding the muscles on your neck, under your chin, and on your chest. This process creates tiny injuries underneath the skin, which then stimulates the body’s natural healing response. This increases collagen production, which gradually tightens and lifts the skin over time.
Ultherapy is the only non-invasive FDA-cleared procedure for these problem areas, and I generally recommend this treatment to patients with mild to moderate chest wrinkles and sagging neck skin.
Like the face, the chest and neck area gets more UV exposure when outdoors than other parts of the body. This exposure thins your skin, breaks capillaries, and creates dark spots on your neck and chest. Photorejuvenation therapy is one solution I frequently recommend to my patients who have visible sun damage in the aforementioned areas.
Photorejuvenation uses specific light waves to target unwanted pigmentation and vessels on your décolletage. The Broad Band Pulse light will cause the brown lesions to initially become darker, then fade away in the following two weeks. During the same appointment, I also treat the small capillaries with a different wavelength of light, which over time reduces their size and eventually, they disappear after several treatments.
Most patients see results of clearer skin within three sessions. Additionally, Skin Tyte can be done to help tighten the collagen in this area immediately after treating the discoloration. Similar to the concept of Ultherapy, heat is used to target collagen production by healing and renewing collagen cells, leading to less fine lines and wrinkles. There is no down time with Skin Tyte and treatments can be done as often as every two weeks. Depending upon the starting point of your skin, you may need 3 to 6 treatments overall.
Dermal fillers can be an excellent choice for patients interested in learning how to tighten neck skin. Fillers are available in a variety of brands and formulas, and depending on how well you maintain your results with other treatments, the filler that I select could last between a few months to several years. During your consultation, I will evaluate your decolletage and determine where the fillers should be strategically placed for maximum results. During the procedure, an anesthetic cream is used, which reduces potential discomfort from the injections. Typically, there is no downtime after dermal filler injections.
Botox is another minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin on the chest and neck. The neurotoxic formula relaxes underlying muscles, which prevents them from contracting and causing additional skin creasing. I often recommend Botox treatment for my patients who have thickening or protrusion of the platysma, or the broadsheet of muscle between your collarbone and jaw.
Microneedling with advanced technology such as the SkinPen or AquaGold Fine Touch can also help resurface the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation in this area.
Microneedling works by using a pen-like device with a dozen super-fine needles that create micro-perforations in the outer layers of the skin. This kick-starts your body’s own healing mechanism, which begins to create collagen and elastin to repair the finely damaged skin, resulting in tighter, firmer feeling skin. When combined with additional procedures like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, you can see dramatic results in the improvement of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging on your chest and neck.
Skin Tightening Cream
Skin tightening cream can be an affordable alternative to cosmeceutical procedures to treat mild neck wrinkles and sagging chest skin. However, there are numerous creams, concoctions, and potions promising to get rid of wrinkles and not all are created equal. Drugstore brands often contain unwanted chemicals that can damage or change the appearance of your skin, and even higher-end formulas may be more moisturizer than tightening cream.
I’ve developed a highly effective skincare line for my patients designed specifically to help difficult-to-treat areas. Elegant is my proprietary neck and décolletage retexturing cream formulated with skin-nourishing retinoids, vitamins C and E, ferulic acid ester, lush emollients, and rejuvenating peptides. Not only will Elegant smooth the texture of your neck and chest, it can help reduce redness that commonly plagues this area.
